I am a costume professional with over a decade of experience designing & creating costumes for stage, screen & events.

My work has been featured on screen by the BBC, Netflix & Marvel, on stage at Shakespeare’s Globe & the National Theatre, & at events across the world for agencies & high street brands.

My costume design journey began at the age of 13 during my work experience at a local college theatre. Whilst still at school I learnt to stitch with a bridal dressmaker at the weekends, and I went on to train on the BA Costume for the Screen & Stage at the Arts Institute Bournemouth.

I founded Sarah Juliet Costumes in my hometown of Brighton in 2009, cutting my teeth in fringe theatre, drag, walkabout & cirque performance. I now draw heavily on these early influences from a beautiful studio in Brixton, South London, where I work with a small dedicated team.

My work is colourful, playful and ambitious. I specialise in challenging garment construction that often sits at the intersection of costume and prop making. I design & paint or print my own textiles, & I enjoy reusing and recycling unexpected materials into new creations.

I am passionate about the arts, & believe that storytelling through performance has transformative potential for both individuals & societies. I enjoy working with other freelance professionals, helping to develop new talent, collaborating with colleges through mentoring, & working with community groups & charities.

I love to work on diverse projects, taking design work for any medium, as well as cut & construction for all genders & periods, alongside prop costume & headwear. I’ve developed lasting partnerships with returning clients, & am always looking to forge new creative partnerships. Enquiries are welcomed for design, construction, or both, & initial consultations are fun, free & encouraged!
